Choose your new BMW at BMW Motorrad

As the BMW Motorrad Motorsport team enters its third consecutive year in the Superbike World Championship, all across the globe S 1000 RR riders and teams are making their own preparations to contest regional, national and even international race series in 2011.

As the BMW Race Family continues to grow worldwide, a special three-day race camp has been organised from 10-12 March at the Parcmotor Circuit Castelloli close to Barcelona – an exciting racetrack that had involvement from MotoGP ace Dani Pedrosa in its design.

The idea behind the BMW Race Camp is to gather together individuals and teams from all over the world who are currently racing (or considering racing) the RR, for a programme of track activity, shared knowledge and experience, and an opportunity to meet with top race industry specialists from many areas, including suspension, tyres, brakes, bodywork, data-recording and race calibration.

The plan is to restrict race camp numbers to between 50 and 60 riders, so that in addition to plenty of track time, all individuals get a chance to participate in activities such as testing different suspension systems, trying the HP Race Power Kit and gaining an understanding of how to use the HP Race Calibration system RCT – a racetrack-only software tool that allows significant engine performance and DTC traction benefits (please notify the organisers in advance via  if you want to purchase and test the RCT in Spain).

The plan for this three-day intensive test from 10-12 March is to have as much track time as possible, so training has been divided in two groups from 10am to 6pm each day. In-between track sessions, this will allow participants to speak to representatives from all kinds of racing services, participate in workshops and meet all the BMW engineers and specialists involved in racing. There will also be a tyre service on site, as well as a fuel service truck from Shell.

Furthermore, present during the three-day camp will be Feel Racing, which is the official partner of the BMW Motorrad Italia for the Superbike World Championship and Superstock FIM Cup. Since the foundation of the BMW Motorrad Italia Superbike Team, Feel Racing has developed a special bike based on the standard RR, derived from the winning motorcycle of the 2010 FIM Superstock Cup, ridden by Ayrton Badovini.

For all RR racers who want to take their machine and their racing aspirations to the next level, Feel Racing can build a machine for local championships, modify a customer’s bike, assist with tuning, machine set-up and electronics, and much more. There will be an RR ‘Pista’ on display, complete with all performance components, chassis and bodywork modifications and kit parts available. Furthermore, there will be an opportunity for riders who are interested in the SSTK machine, to test this special RR, courtesy of Feel Racing.

Perhaps one of the most important elements of this race camp will be the opportunity to meet fellow RR racers from all over Europe, and to discuss experiences gained from competing in various championships, what improvements have worked with the RR in certain weather conditions and temperatures, and how different approaches can be used to get an RR from the showroom to the track – with dealer support, sponsorship and a healthy fan base.

The price for the three-day race camp will be 950€, although two-day participation can also be arranged (enquire for details). Included will be the free use of a transponder and a test of data recording. The camp will also include courses on how to use the HP Race Calibration Tool for the RR. Suppliers like Öhlins, Wilbers, Bitubo, Shell, Metzeler, Dunlop, Pirelli, Michelin and alpha racing have also been invited to participate and explain their product offerings to riders.

The intention in the future is to use these collective findings to establish a permanent BMW Race Customer Support team that can help any racer worldwide get the technical information he or she needs to be able to campaign the RR locally, nationally or internationally.
