It’s not just BMW motorcycles that come in all shapes and sizes – human beings do too – and one size definitely does not fit all. BMW Motorrad prides itself on offering a model line-up to appeal to men and women of all ages and sizes, with high levels of comfort available across the range.
This is good news for example, for riders who prefer a lower seat height, but do not want to compromise on model choice. BMW Motorrad already offers a lower seat as a factory-fit option for most of its models (at no extra charge), but some riders require their seat to be lower still.
Feedback from female, novice and shorter riders confirms that controlling a machine can be difficult at slow speeds, especially when riding motorcycles with a higher seat height. BMW Motorrad became the first motorcycle manufacturer to launch a range of models that can be ordered with lowered suspension – to provide customers with even lower seat height options. Motorcyclists feel more secure when they are able to place their feet firmly on the ground, especially under stop-start conditions. BMW’s lower suspension bikes will ensure that more riders are able to do this – naturally, comfortably and safely.
To complement this wide choice of seat heights available for many models is a range of extra comfortable motorcycle seats specifically designed to ensure that long stretches in the saddle can be covered safely and comfortably, for both rider and passenger.
For example, the ‘standard’ R 1200 RT is a supremely comfortable touring machine, but those who want even higher levels of touring luxury can opt for the
‘Comfort Seat’, which offers extra padding, a wider seat cushion and a lower height than the standard seat. This one-piece, high-quality black seat is perfectly matched to the design of the R 1200 RT and is even compatible with the optional 'seat heating' function. In combination with the factory-fitted lowered suspension, this means that all shapes and sizes can enjoy the formidable R 1200 RT.
A choice of low, standard, and Comfort seats is available for many other models, including the R 1200 R roaster (pictured above), F 650 GS and F 800 GS machines. However, some F 800 GS owners need their seats to perform a different role – especially those who like to make the most of their GS's off-road capabilities. For these riders, an F 800 GS rally seat is available, with a 920mm height. This sports-designed, firmer seat offers a narrower profile and higher seating position for more relaxed off-roading. It also allows improved freedom of movement and weight distribution for enduro riders, as well better feedback of riding conditions through the machine. Furthermore, it's also suitable for the latest F 650 GS model.
Whichever BMW motorcycle interests you, it’s good to know that you really can tailor it to fit your personal requirements, so, why compromise? Don’t settle for anything less than the best – your motorcycling enjoyment depends on it. Seek the advice of your local BMW Motorrad dealer who will be able to explain all of the options and choices available and – importantly – let you try them out for yourself.
