Buildbase BMW Motorrad rider Howie Mainwaring took his first podium of the season with a stunning battle to second place in the Metzeler National Superstock 1000 race at Thruxton. British Superbike riders Dan Linfoot and Barry Burrell both scored their first points of the season.
Howie Mainwaring took his first podium of 2012 after a thrilling race at the Hampshire circuit. From a second-row start, Mainwaring cut through the field on his BMW S 1000 RR and worked up to the front of the pack along with fellow Buildbase BMW Motorrad rider Steve Brogan. In a nail-biting finale, Brogan battled with the eventual race winner but lost the front on the final corner on the last lap, leaving Howie in second place. Brogan was unhurt in the incident.
Dan Linfoot and Barry Burrell both scored points in the day's British Superbike races. Both riders delivered a fantastic performance in the first race, pulling back more than ten places each on their qualifying times with Linfoot pushing up from 23rd to 12th and Burrell 29th to 14th. The second race brought futher points, with Dan fighting from a fifth row start to finish 11th and Barry finishing 17th.
Stuart Hicken, team principal, said: "We had a great step forwards in performance this weekend. Howie's podium finish was very well deserved, he kept his head and was rewarded with 20 points. Steve's crash was very unfortunate, he'd stormed to the front of the pack and absolutely deserved to finish on the podium.
"Both our BSB riders opted to play safe in qualifying and ran wet tyres, which kept them from continuing their top-ten performances from free practice. However, in the first race they showed just how quick they can be, with Dan pulling back 11 places and Barry 15 on their qualifying positions. And in the second race they showed fantastic pace, with Dan finishing in 11th and bringing home more points. It's been a promising weekend and a sign of the good things to come."
The next race, which includes the cancelled race two from Brands Hatch, will be at Oulton Park on the Bank Holiday weekend of 05-07 May 2012.
