BUILDBASE BMW MOTORRAD CLOSE IN ON SUPERSTOCK 1000 CHAMPIONSHIP LEADER.

25/06/2012

The Buildbase BMW Motorrad team are heading home after a hard weekend of racing at Knockhill, which saw them close in on the Superstock 1000 Championship  leader and take two well deserved point-scoring finishes in BSB.

Steve Brogan finished fifth in the Superstock 1000 race, which brings him to within 15 points of the current Championship leader. Brogan's team mate Howie Mainwaring brought his BMW S 1000 RR home two places behind, a good finish in his first race following his crash at Snetterton.

The team's BSB riders had a tough weekend with both Barry Burrell and newcomer Peter Hickman, filling in for an injured Dan Linfoot at the last minute, each having both a points-scoring finish and a DNF.

Burrell brought his RR home in 11th place in the second race, with fellow RR-rider Hickman working his way up from starting on the fifth row to securing 13th position. Barry came off on the hairpin during race one, but was unhurt. Hickman had engine trouble, but the team were able to get his S 1000 RR ready in time for the second race.

Stuart Hicken, team principal, said: "It's been a long, hard and occasionally wet weekend for the team, but with some very promising results. The good news is that Dan Linfoot is now at home recovering from his crash, in which he broke his left thumb and a finger. He'll be having them pinned tomorrow and will be out for 4-6 weeks. In the interim, Peter Hickman will continue to ride our Second BMW S 1000 RR. Despite joining us at the last minute and having very little time to get accustomed to the RR, Peter qualified and delivered a very solid 13th place finish - and we hope that he'll be able to improve on this while Dan is recovering.

"Steve and Howie both rode hard in the Superstock 1000 race, taking two top-seven finishes. Brogan's result brings him to within 15 points of the current leader and puts us in a very good position to take the lead and secure BMW's third consecutive Superstock 1000 title. Our assault on the series will continue at Oulton Park in two weeks time."

The next racing will be at Cheshire's Oulton Park in a fortnight.
