INTRODUCING THE LATEST SERV ‘BLOODBIKE’ - THE HUSQVARNA NUDA 900.

10/09/2012

The use of BMW motorcycles in transporting various medical supplies and equipment throughout urban areas has been well documented, but now a Kent based dealer of our sister company Husqvarna have generously donated a Nuda 900 to charitable ‘bloodrunners’ organisation SERV Kent for use in their vital life-saving service, delivering blood to hospitals throughout the United Kingdom.

SERV (Service by Emergency Rider Volunteers) was set up in April 1981 to supply a quick and reliable means of transporting emergency blood and blood products to hospitals and medical facilities at night. SERV’s dedicated volunteer motorcyclists and drivers give their time and petrol to help others who need emergency supplies of blood. The service has saved many lives and is supplied without any charges, thus freeing up much-needed funds for improved patient care and other facilities within hospitals.

Prior to SERV, the only means available to hospitals, doctors and other medical establishments were taxis (expensive and not reliable), paid couriers (limited and expensive), the National Blood Transfusion Service (limited availability and costly for hospitals) or police and ambulance, which was fast and efficient, but removed a much-needed emergency vehicle from service.

The story started with off-road racer James Burroughs, who competed in the Scottish Six Day Trial earlier this year and raised over £1,000 for SERV Kent. This, along with a further £1,000 raised elsewhere, was put towards the new bike.

The Husqvarna Nuda was chosen as the ideal machine thanks to its light weight and agility, particularly suited to riding in urban areas. Husqvarna Motorcycles official dealer Freestyle was pleased to cover all other costs relating to the bike and now the Nuda sits proudly as the newest member of the SERV Kent fleet.

Freestyle Dealer Principle,ColinPortsaid: “We are happy to support SERV Kent as their volunteer motorcyclists provide a vital service that helps to save lives at hospitals all over the county. The Husqvarna Nuda 900 makes the perfect bloodbike, enabling SERV volunteers to tackle urban traffic easily and quickly, to ensure they reach their destination in good time.”

John Kidd, SERVKentSecretary said: “We are extremely grateful to Freestyle Motorcycles and James Burroughs for their efforts in securing us a new bloodbike. We tested the Nuda 900 and found that the smooth agile power, light weight and the manoeuvrability of the Nuda make this one of the best urban bikes we have ever used. The Husqvarna Nuda 900 will now be used to save lives all overKentand will help our volunteers to save lives.”
