Known as ‘The Ride to The End of the World’, what inspired you to make the trip through Patagonia?

The first time I looked Patagonia up on the map was in 2011, after watching a Red Bull Snowboarding documentary ‘The Art of Flight’. The footage and scenery of the region was unbelievable – it came from that! I thought: ‘How cool would it be to head on down there and see it in real life?’. A few years later, I was flicking through the BMW Motorrad Tours brochure and there it was, ‘Ride to The End of the World – Patagonia’. The trip looked awesome, we had to go!

How did you prepare for such an adventure?

How did you prepare for such an adventure?

Preparation was pretty easy! Richard, from BMW Motorrad Tours sent us a list of equipment that was required. We were lucky enough to already have most of the kit needed and we were both confident riders. We each brought a BMW top box pannier, which made it comfier for my wife who rode pillion for the trip and gave us a bit more luggage space.

What was your bike of choice?

What was your bike of choice?

I rode the BMW R 1200 GS. I owned the same bike at the time, so it was no brainer for me! It was the perfect bike for the job and was comfortable for my wife riding pillion. The trip proved to me that the GS is the world’s best adventure bike, it took everything in its stride from a day-long 300-mile ride on the famous Ruta 40, to remote gravel roads.

What was the most memorable experience that you’ll look back on from this journey?

What was the most memorable experience that you’ll look back on from this journey?

Looking back through the pictures there’s so many amazing memories - it’s so hard to pick just one memorable moment! How to pick between riding awesome roads (on- and off-road), the scenery, the food, the famous Ruta 40, sleeping in log cabins overlooking mountains and not to mention the penguins!

If I had to go for just one memory, the one that really stands out was visiting the Perito Moreno Glacier. The noise that it was making when huge chunks of ice fell off was unreal, and the sheer size of it! We even had the opportunity to climb up, it was amazing! I’d go back in a heartbeat!!
