The Bike Shed 2018
After the success of last year, BMW Motorrad will return to the Bike Shed for a second time to showcase a new range of stunningly customised motorcycles.
The biggest and busiest Bike Shed event yet held at Tobacco Dock in London saw BMW Motorrad take part officially for the first time last year and brought together a host of customised motorcycles.
This year, BMW Motorrad will return to the Bike Shed for a second time with a new range of custom bikes from all over the world. There will be bikes from local builders, Down and Out, to bikes from the Indian brothers at Sinroja Motorcycles, to bikes imported especially from customisers K-Speed in Thailand. The BMW Motorrad stand will display eight completely different takes on customisation, from the old to the new. Below you can find a sneak preview of what to expect from BMW Motorrad this year...
Wollaston R nine TT Legend
The R nine TT Legend was inspired by the famous German motorcycle racer Georg Meier, the first foreign winner of the prestigious Senior TT, at the Isle of Man TT Races. Riding for the factory BMW team in 1939, Meier was the first motorcycle racer to lap the Grand Prix course at over 100 mph.
"We wanted to capture the history and racing heritage with a modern but classic twist. The deep black paintwork, dual white pinstripe, the legendry 49 number board and the TT logo taken from the 1939 TT advertising brochure reflects back to the era whilst the bespoke exhaust , torque arm and custom rear sets showcase the art of modern customisation This is a real modern day classic which not only looks good, but sounds fantastic. "
Chandlers HP Racer
The Chandlers HP Racer was inspire by the rare HP2 series of bikes from the late 2000's. With this in mind the design was focused on the visual keys shared by the three HP2 bikes; indigo blue frame, blue wheels and monochrome bodywork. The starting point was a factory Racer that was stripped down to frame, painted and re-built. The bike was relieved of all it's clothes (and skeleton) leaving only an engine and final drive sitting solemnly on technician’s ramp whilst the in house bodyshop worked their magic.
“We wanted the bike to ride as fast as it looks and uphold the HP ethos of performance. The original fork springs were replaced with Hyperpro progressive items and rear shock absorber spring was replaced with a firmer Hyperpro unit. Metzeler UK provided a pair of super sticky Racetec RR tyres to help keep the HP Racer rubber-side down and with the suspension upgrades give more bite into tarmac.”
The Son of Time Project.
The Son of Time project brings BMW Motorrad together with two separate design pioneers that live and breathe the new school. From the world of horology, TW Steel stand out as the new breed in watchmaking, bold and fearless in design and attitude, unafraid to be different. From the world of custom motorcycle building, Sinroja Motorcycles are the hungry young guns, delivering a modern twist to old school cool with their two-wheeled creations.
A striking design, performance packed bike that will stand for passion and freedom. Hosting a fully handmade aluminium bodywork this motorcycle is a true representation of artisan skills and drive to create someone unique based on a signature motorcycle from BMW. A ground up design that will match the unique timepiece created by TW Steel, that will represent beliefs of all 3 brands involved in this project to show the world something they’ll remember forever.
Smoking Customs R100/7
For many the R100 was an aspirational bike, the motorbike to have of the 70s. Almost half a century later, the R100 has become a true classic and the base for countless customs.
Chris, more commonly known as ‘Baron von Grumble’, is no stranger to exotic and unique riding machines. Despite a customised BMW S 1000 RR and a number of other bikes at his disposal, Chris was still looking for something more – a bike with a more personal connection than the rest. Step in Smokin’ Customs, known for some of the most stylish and clean customisation and restorations in the UK. The story of this particular R100 can be traced right back to when the bike was first purchased at Parklane BMW in 1978. The stories that come with the bike only add to the heritage and the emotional pull of a classic machine.
Down and Out Pure
“The bike is a brand new 2017 R nine T Pure, the base model of the range. That’s the bike that we preferred because we wanted to do something a little bit different, which gave us the opportunity to put some different parts on it.
The beauty of this bike was, as it was a cheaper base price it allowed us to spend a little bit more money so we could actually fetch it up to the scratch that we wanted it to be which is the all Öhlins front forks, the Öhlins rear suspension, new exhaust system and because we put the Öhlins rear shock in it actually made it harder for us, so the exhaust come right around the shock. It wasn’t easy to do but we got there in the end, I think the exhaust is the main part. “
K-Speed Soulfuel Racer
Builders, K-Speed from Thailand, have a long standing history with customising BMW motorcycles. Their latest bike, the Soulfuel Racer, will make its debut apperance at any motorcycle event at the Bike Shed 2018.
“It is not easy to customize a bike that already looks perfect. I am super excited and proud to be part of this Soulfuel project”
