Great bikes and a fantastic venue

The biggest and busiest Bikeshed event yet held at Tobacco Dock in London saw BMW Motorrad take part officially for the first time this year and we brought together a host of stunningly customised motorcycles. The BMW Motorrad stand saw eight completely different takes on customisation of different types of BMW motorcycles from old to new; there was even the stunning factory-commissioned R 5 Hommage concept bike that was built last year at the request of BMW headquarters in Munich.

BMW showed off bikes ranging from the 1970s through to brand new examples using the current BMW R nineT Pure and R nineT as base bikes to show how easily these bikes can be crafted and modified into truly individual creations.

With the R nineT Pure as the basis, the Down and Out machine is cut down and simple; a massive rear wheel, large front tyre and Ohlins suspension with a bespoke exhaust make this bike really stand out from the crowd.

Smokin’ Customs used an old R 100 to create a custom bike that combines old technology with some modern twists for a look that blended the two together seamlessly.

Pier City Cycles were on hand with what’s thought to be the only Hooligan-style R nineT custom bike, featuring unique 19 inch front and rear wheels which had been made from scratch using a multitude of BMW parts from other machines.

Proving that some of the more recent boxer twin engines can be made into something unique was the Racer from VTR Customs, originally an R 1200 R, which sat nicely alongside the K 100 engined machine from Boes.ch that used inspiration from classic wooden speedboats for a totally different style.

XTR Custom Build

'The Silver Bullet' is the first motorcycle designed by the Spanish magazine editors at 'Revival of the Machine' and built by the famous Spanish builder, XTR Pepo. The bike itself is a 1978 R100RS which features a range of the best parts including Lectron High-Performance carburetors and Akrapovic exhausts. The watch brand 'Zenith' were also kind enough to donate their exclusive 'Pilot Type 20 Extra Special' which is now housed in the gas tank.
