Explore the history of one of World War One’s most strategically important areas and bloodiest battlegrounds. This respectful, thought-provoking tour of Belgium and northern France takes you to sites that highlight the bravery and sacrifice of those that served in this conflict. Our guide for this fascinating tour to Ypres and Somme is a knowledgeable and engaging historian as well as a motorcycle enthusiast.
We will take you through the strategic reasons that led Allied forces to engage the German army across the Flanders region between the Octobers of 1914-1918. During the five-day tour, we’ll have two bases in Ypres and Albert in the Somme. You will get to visit many significant sites including Passchendaele, the battlefields of Gommecourt, and the strategically important ‘Hill 60’, in addition to several poignant memorials and cemeteries.
While the focus of the tour is on the sacrifices made during this historic conflict, we will of course enjoy the now-scenic countryside while riding some of the most enjoyable roads in the area. A trip that balances thought-provoking history with smile-inducing riding.
