A seven-day test of strength.
High temperatures, river crossings and rocky mountain passes.

"The sixth edition of the International GS Trophy was not for the faint of heart: teams had to endure seven days full of special challenges and highly intense daily stages in temperatures of over 30 degrees. These included exhausting river crossings, arduous journeys through mountainous regions and difficult agility challenges.

"The competition was tough and exciting from beginning to end," remarked Heiner Faust, Head of Sales and Marketing at BMW Motorrad. And he was not exaggerating: The Int. GS Trophy 2016 was quite something. Challenges with names like "Broken Bridge", "Pit Stop", and "Helicopter Pad", only hint at the kind of demanding tasks facing the participants.

Over the seven days, GS riders had to complete a total of 19 tests, all requiring riding skills, agility and team spirit. But the special tests were not the only reasons for participants to break out in a sweat. Temperatures of over 30°C brought to mind the 2010 Int. GS Trophy in South Africa. Together with the high humidity of Southeast Asia, it was among our hottest events ever.

Living the Dream - From Rookie to Rider.
One newly-qualified rider recounts their journey through BMW Rider Training.

I guess it started in the early 1980s. After decades of admiring and longing for the various generations of BMW RTs, I decided the time had come to live the dream. And who better than BMW Rider Training in Royston to get me there? That was how, after doing my detailed homework on training providers, I ended up at BMW Rider Training in Royston. To be honest it was a bit of a gamble. Would I even like it? Would I be able to learn new skills, or would I be too entrenched in the way I do things? Maybe it would be a nice distraction for a few days, and finally I’d put the idea to rest? Maybe I would decide I didn't like road riding, maybe my dyslexia would impact my learning, or maybe I would just fail.

Heritage

The design draws its inspiration directly from the first motorcycles. It is reminiscent of the era of the 1970's and 80's. But its roots go deeper. Even the very first motorcycle from BMW was simple, reduced and dynamic. Already in 1923 the heart of the entire concept was the BMW opposed-twin engine. At the same time, it offers you many options to customise your motorcycle. You can realize your dreams: of your bike and your lifestyle. You will feel where it comes from Whether you're customising it or enjoying the thrill of opening the throttle.

A look back at the 2016 International GS Trophy.
Team South Africa wins the GS challenge in Thailand.

Manoeuvring motorcycles over dilapidated bridges, crossing rivers with the GS and changing tyres in a hurry: the International GS Trophy is an enduro challenge like no other.

In 2016 it was time for the event once again. 19 teams from all over the world rode their BMW R 1200 GS motorcycles across northern Thailand. The GS riders conquered 1,400 kilometres, 19 special tests and seven daily stages. They crossed jungles, dams and rain forests, enduring brutal heat and high humidity. The sixth International GS Trophy left them physically exhausted but satisfied in every other respect.

Highlights 2017.
BMW Motorrad Days 2017 thrilled more than 40,000 bikers.

For the 17th time, Garmisch-Partenkirchen has transformed itself into a Mecca for connoisseurs of BMW Motorrad. Against the magnificent backdrop of the Zugspitz mountains, over 40,000 visitors from around the world came together and celebrated their common passion for the two-wheeled engine. Check out the highlights here. The motorcycle highlights of the three-day event were the premiere of the BMW Motorrad Spezial and Connectivity innovations, the colour updates for the current range of BMW models and the breathtaking world premiere in the Motodrom with, for the first time ever, four BMW R 25s simultaneously inside the wooden drum. Screeching tyres, action-packed shows and top summer weather turned up the temperature for the spectators during the day, as did the bands and DJs in the evenings. After a successful exhibition full of fantastic vibes and numerous events, we’re already making plans for the 18th BMW Motorrad Days, which will take place from the 6th to the 8th of June 2018 – mark the date in your calendars! We’re looking forward to seeing you there!
